Man gets five years in house explosion

The male charged 13 Criminal Code and Controlled Drug and Substance Act charges has pleaded guilty to three of those charges resulting in jail time.

The male pleaded guilty to:

  • Arson – disregard for human Life
  • Production of a controlled substance
  • Possession of a controlled substance

The sentence was 5 years jail time less pre-trial custody (which was 11 months) leaving him with 4 years and 1 month remaining in his time to be served. 

He was also ordered to provide a sample of his DNA to be held on file and was given a firearms prohibition.

The three remaining co-accused parties are still awaiting trial for their outstanding Controlled Drug and Substance Act charges.

Update: Wednesday June 17th 2015 8:13 a.m.

On June 16 2015, members of the Street Crime Unit and Investigative Services attended a residence in Orillia and arrested and charged a male and female in connection with the residential explosion that took place at 59 Collete Crescent in Barrie on March 13, 2015.

Charged is: A 36-year-old of Orillia and a 34-year-old of Orillia.

Both parites have been been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controllled Drugs and Substance Act:

  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Arson – Cause Bodily Harm X 3
  • Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm X 3
  • Production -  Schedule II
  • Possession for the purpose -  Schedule II(Marijuana)
  • Possession Over  -  Schedule II (Marijuana)
  • Possession for the Purpose  - Schedule II (Cannabis Resin (brick)
  • Possession - Schedule II Cannabis Resin (brick)
  • Possession for the Purpose  - Schedule II Cannabis Resin (Oil)
  • Possession  -  Schedule II Cannabis Resin (Oil))
  • Possession for the Purpose  -  Schedule I (Oxy Codone)
  • Possession - Schedule I (Oxy Codone)

The female released on a promise to appear wirth a court date in July.

The male will appear in bail court in Barrie on Wednesday June 17.

On Saturday March 14, 2015 the Barrie Police Service executed search warrants at 59 Collette Street, City of Barrie.

As a result of the search, police seized; cannabis marijuana, cannabis resin – commonly referred to as “Hash” and cannabis resin oil. Due to this seizure there is a potential for criminal charges to be laid.

The four people in the garage at the time of the explosion remain in GTA hospitals. Two are in critical condition and two others remain in serious condition.

This investigation is ongoing and Barrie Police continue to liaise with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Barrie Police is no longer holding the scene and the residence has been safety secured by Barrie Fire and City of Barrie.
