On Friday evening at 9 p.m., Barrie Police received a call from a citizen who had witnessed an accident in Midhurst and was following one vehicle that had left the scene.
The driver stopped his car in the parking lot of the Bayfield mall and fled on foot.
While police were searching the mall it was reported the suspects car was now on fire.
Officers located and arrested the driver and Barrie fire attended to extinguish the blaze.
Investigation found the 37-year-old male was at large from Central North Correction Center.
He was turned over to OPP to investigate the matter and returned to jail.
