Male driver killed in Highway 12 crash in Ramara

Female passenger taken to Toronto-area hospital with 'life-threatening' injuries; OPP still investigating crash

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 12 at Plum Point Road in Ramara Township.

On Saturday, Orillia OPP were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 12 at Plum Point Road. 

Police arrived on the scene where Ramara Fire Department and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS) were tending to injured persons.

CSPS transported two people to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The male driver was pronounced deceased at the hospital. 

The female passenger was then transported to a Toronto-area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The OPP Central Region Technical Collision Investigation Unit (TCI) along with a Collision Reconstructionist was called in to assist with the investigation.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle driven by the deceased turned left onto Highway 12 from Plum Point Road and was struck by a vehicle travelling southbound.

The Orillia OPP continues to investigate this incident.
