Springwater residents have a new place to cool down with the opening of the Homer Barrett Park Splash Pad in Elmvale. Township Council officially cut the ribbon and invited the public to enjoy the park during a ceremony which took place on Wednesday afternoon.

The new 3,050 square foot splash pad is located at 43 Centennial Ave. in Elmvale and features a design focusing around a water tower, which was a prominent landmark in Elmvale until the early 2000s. The park includes two designated play zones and 20 spray features. An aluminum shade shelter with two accessible tables was also included in the creation of the park.

The new splash pad features an environmentally friendly recirculation system to drastically reduce the amount of water used.

“The new splash pad is a great addition to our Township,” says Mayor Bill French. “Council is supportive of investing in new ways to keep our residents active in our community and the new splash pad provides a great way for families to get out, meet their neighbours and cool off while having fun. Furthermore, the new splash pad will draw additional people to Elmvale, increasing visitation to our main street businesses.”

The Homer Barrett Park Splash Pad will operate from May to mid-September and be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting.

The new splash pad cost approximately $350,000 and was funded through the development charges reserve fund and the hydro reserve fund.
