Looking to put a bounce in your step on Family Day? Might as well jump!

Monday's event on Family Day will be the fifth Barrie Bouncefest in three years and this year the proceeds will be going to Starlight Canada

If you’re looking for a fun and inexpensive way to spend Family Day, head over to the Barrie Sports Dome on Monday morning and afternoon and help a great cause at the same time.

The Barrie Sports Dome will be bouncing for a good cause on Feb. 18 as the folks at Cloud Hop Amusements will be setting up 13 huge bouncy castles from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This will be the company’s fifth Barrie Bouncefest in three years and this year the proceeds will be going to Starlight Canada, which helps kids going through medical treatment or in hospitals to get out and have fun instead of worrying about their illness.

Brent Miller, who owns Cloud Hop, tells BarrieToday the event is held on the perfect day for raising money.

“We’ve done a few of these types of charitable events and having it on Family Day as an annual thing is just the best possible way to do it,” said Miller. “I’m a dad and I know that as a parent you’re always looking for a fun, affordable way to spend time with the kids, and this is just that.”

Barrie Bouncefest was thought up by Brent’s nine-year-old son, Nathan. Nathan wanted to help kids who were having a rough time with treatments and hospitals and decided it would be a great to give back to the Starlight Foundation.

Nathan and his Grade 4 classmates will be at the event to have a good time, but also help those from the Starlight Foundation have fun, too.

“Nathan was really excited about helping this organization and while we’ve given to a few charitable organizations in the past, we have decided to make Starlight the one we continue to associate with as far as Bouncefest,” said Miller. “They do things for kids of all ages including teenagers, who get their own specially designed hospital gown for their many hospital visits.”

Starlight’s Ward + Robes program empowers teens with cool hospital gowns that have been inspiring to those who need them from Vancouver to Japan.

Monday’s Bouncefest takes place at the Barrie Sports Dome, located at 99 Hanmer St. E., from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Admission is $10 per child, two years of age and up, and adults are free.
