MIDHURST - May 27 to June 2, 2018 is National Paramedic Services Week and activities are scheduled throughout Simcoe County to recognize and celebrate the dedication of our front line Paramedic Services personnel.

The celebrations start with the swearing in of our the honourary paramedic for a day contest winner, Ava LaLonde, a Grade 5 student from St. John Paul II Catholic School, on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 during County Council.

Ava’s essay was chosen from over 80 essays submitted by local Grade 5 and 6 students who entered the annual writing contest.

Ava will receive a certificate, first aid bag, and stethoscope and will spend the day with a County of Simcoe paramedic crew learning about the job. This will include touring a paramedic station, learning life saving techniques including the use of a defibrillator, and assisting paramedics as they perform a mock exercise.

“This year’s theme, 'Health-Community-You' showcases the integral role County of Simcoe Paramedic Services play in keeping our community safe, healthy and strong through community-based programs, training and educational initiatives,” said Warden Gerry Marshall. “It is my privilege, on behalf of all residents of Simcoe County, to thank our amazing paramedics for their many contributions to our communities.”
