Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that based on new delivery schedules, Canada will receive at least one million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine every week from March 22 to May 10.
"Every dose makes a difference," said Trudeau at a March 12 press conference.
Trudeau also spoke about the federal government's plans to end drinking water advisories on First Nations reserves — he said the 101st drinking water advisory was just lifted. He also spoke about the latest jobs numbers — 250,000 new jobs were added to the economy last month, Trudeau said.
Chief Public Health Officer of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam said there have been a daily average of 3,050 cases of COVID-19 reported in Canada over the past week, and 51 deaths. She said to date, there have been 3,000 variants of concern detected in Canada.
There have been 2.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered to date, and in the past week 600,000 doses have been administered, the highest number in a single week.
"We're making progress every day," said Tam, while she urged people to continue to show caution.
