On the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, Canadians will take a moment of silence to pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of soldiers who fought, often to the death, for their country, for their communities, and for our freedom.

It is because of the sacrifice paid by these individuals that I have the freedom to write in this newspaper today.

Few groups on Earth deserve more respect than our veterans, members of our armed forces, and those who fought and didn't return.

It is the civic responsibility of all Canadians to pay their respects and show their support of the tremendous sacrifice Canada's men and women in uniform paid for our country.

This Remembrance Day, please buy a poppy and wear it proudly, thank a veteran for his or her service, attend a local Remembrance Day ceremony, or observe a moment of silence.

Not only is it the right thing to do, but it is a duty that comes with our sacred freedom, which has been preserved with thanks to our soldiers.

To all of our highly respected veterans, their families, and the families of those who didn't return, I say thank you, and may God bless you.

Hale Mahon, Midhurst
