Barrie's mayor and council have wasted a lot of time and our money on gimmicks to try and stop speeders on residential streets.

They started with very expensive and ineffective removable speed bumps (drivers often slow down on the approach and then "gun it" to make up for lost time!).

The same applies to speed dips, but drivers don't even slow down.

The most ridiculous brain wave so far is the large "cut-out" police officer photo.

Let us hope, common sense will prevail and the city politicians will decide to invest in mobile photo radar units, but not just in school zones, but on all high-risk multi-lane roads in the city, i.e. Big Bay Point Road, Anne Street, Essa Road, Mapleview Drive, Yonge Street.

Furthermore, to deter "red-light runners," the city should also invest in red-light cameras.
