Election Day is Oct. 22 in this year's municipal election.

BarrieToday received the following letter from The Friends of Oro-Medonte in response to yesterday's article about the group's efforts to inform township voters about candidates running in the municipal election.

In response to the recent article published in BarrieToday, we would like to provide some context about our organization and the work that we are doing to ensure that residents of Oro-Medonte are provided with the information they need to elect the best candidates in the upcoming municipal election.

The Friends of Oro- Medonte is a registered Third Party Advertiser in the township of Oro-Medonte – we along with two other registered Third Party Advertisers have formed under the new rules and regulations of the Municipal Elections Act.

The Friends of Oro-Medonte consists of concerned individuals, some of whom have lived in and have done business in Oro-Medonte for almost 50 years, whose aim is to elect the best possible council for our township. We, like many residents, care about the future of our township. We care about our taxes, protecting the environment, creating jobs and building and managing our infrastructure – what we care about most is balanced government.

We support candidates who we believe are balanced in their approach, who are not tied to any special interest groups, who will make decisions in the best interest of all residents and are willing to stand up and fight for the future of Oro-Medonte.

We are following the rules and regulations as set out by the municipal elections act and are in no way engaging in unscrupulous electioneering. More information about third party campaigns can be found at http://www.mah.gov.on.ca/Page18736.aspx

For information about the candidates and our opinions about the upcoming election please visit our website at www.voteoromedonte.ca

The Friends of Oro- Medonte hopes that voters will consider all of the information available before casting their votes in the upcoming election.

We have publicly listed our preferences and now we leave the candidate profiles on our website so voters can make up their own minds.

We will continue to work together with residents of Oro -Medonte to ensure a bright future for our township.
