SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools are strengthening their connection to nature by learning outdoors.

Fourteen teachers and their classes from nine different SCDSB schools, ranging from Grades 1 to 10, have been working to collectively build knowledge by sharing ideas and strategies about outdoor education.

“Our teachers have connected all areas of the curriculum, with a focus on math, through outdoor learning,” says Jamila Monahan, Program and Innovation Resource teacher, Arts Integration K-12, and one of the project leads. “We believe in supporting the highest levels of student success by learning from fellow educators, sharing lessons and creating educational resources that work for our students.”

Staff share experiences through a Google classroom and on Twitter using the hashtag #scdsbOutside.

On June 26, the group will celebrate outdoor learning with their students at Springwater Park in Midhurst. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
