Renegade has been the healthy stop for most Barrie residents the last year and half, but now they’re using their Krave Keto department to be the choice of Canadians across the country.

Amy De Wolfe opened her Renegade health bar on Collier Street a year and a half ago until recently moving to her dream spot at 50 Dunlop St. E.

De Wolfe told BarrieToday she knew it was the spot for her business a while ago and she wasted no time in grabbing it.

“When this spot became available, I jumped on it,” she said. “I love being right where the action is and on the main street.”

De Wolfe’s Renegade has always sold vegan and healthy lifestyle foods and drinks, but now has many items from the worldwide popular Keto diet.

“I think it was the top trending thing on Google recently, but it is definitely a huge part of many Canadians' way of life and we wanted to make sure that being we were a healthy spot that we had it,” said De Wolfe.

Keto involves reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis, which helps your body burn fat for energy. While a healthy option, it was a family scare that had the business owner add Keto diet items to the menu and eventually saw them shipping across Canada.

“My parents started doing it over a year ago when my dad had a stroke and they were getting such great results that we decided we’d put some Keto stuff on the menu,” said De Wolfe. “Renegade was initially vegan, but when we moved to our Dunlop Street location and had a bigger kitchen, we decided to do a full menu, now we’re shipping it all over the country from B.C. to Nova Scotia.”

Krave Keto offers people items from desserts to pumpkin spice lattes and mocha peppermint coffees to lasagnas and butter chicken dishes that are all keto-option.

“Keto may be healthy, but it certainly doesn’t have to be boring,” said De Wolfe. “We definitely take into account that so many people are choosing this new way of eating and we want them to know that we are full of great options whether it is an on-the-go meal, eat-in or delivery.”
