Kempenfelt Community Players (KCP) has taken grant funding obtained last year to purchase much-needed sound and lighting equipment.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) provided a $24,100 grant to the local theatre group, which has been producing shows for more than 40 years and has been the many recipient of awards at the Association of Community Theatre and local readers’ choice awards.

KCP says none of this could be possible without help from its many volunteers and organizations such as the OTF.

“Every year, hundreds of people come through the door of our rehearsal studio intent on following their dreams of being in theatre, whether it’s on the stage or behind it,” Andrée Day said in a release. “And, being able to provide them with the tools required to pursue their dream and give the audience quality performing is a privilege.”

The OTF grant will be going toward new equipment.

“The impact of the OTF grant cannot be underestimated,” Day said. “These upgrades not only benefit us during our productions at Georgian Theatre, but allow us to access other venues who do not have the necessary equipment in place.”

KCP is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization, committed to ensuring Barrie and the surrounding area has a vital and thriving arts and culture scene.
