The Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte Provincial Liberal Association (BSOMPLA) will hold its candidate nomination meeting for the coming election on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the East Bayfield Community Centre, 80 Livingstone St. E., Barrie, Ont. The meeting location is situated behind the Georgian Mall.

Midhurst resident and healthcare executive Jeff Kerk is the declared candidate. Everyone is welcome at the meeting, but only members will be allowed to vote on the nomination and any other motions put forward.

“I look forward to formally securing the nomination, meeting Liberal supporters and officially launching a robust campaign to win this riding,” says Kerk, who will address the meeting and answer questions from the attendees.

Kerk will join a very strong Simcoe County slate of Ontario Liberal Party candidates, including incumbent MPP Ann Hoggarth in Barrie-Innisfil, County Warden Gerry Marshall in Simcoe North, recent school board Chair Loralea Carruthers in York-Simcoe and college professor Dan Hambly in Simcoe-Grey.

The new BSOM provincial riding encompasses an area including the north of Barrie, the township of Springwater and the western portion of Oro-Medonte township. People who wish to join the Association and/or want to volunteer to help in the coming campaign should attend the nomination meeting or email the BSOMPLA at [email protected].

Under the leadership of Premier Kathleen Wynne, the Ontario Liberal Party has a plan to create opportunity and fairness during this period of rapid economic change. Ontario's economy is growing, but too many families still feel like they can't get ahead.

Our plan includes building a stronger, healthier Ontario through historic new investments in health care, including through free medications for everyone under 25 and a committed expansion to serve those over 65 through OHIP+; providing free tuition for over 225,000 students and on-the-job learning opportunities to help land a great job; and helping 100,000 kids access quality, licensed child care, including a commitment to free preschool.

The Conservatives have vowed to halt the $15 minimum wage. They have backed away from the fight against climate change, and have promised billions of dollars in cuts to critical public services.

While the Ontario Liberal Party is focused on investing in the services and infrastructure people rely on, the Conservatives remain focused on gutting healthcare and education, denying working people a decent pay cheque, and threatening much-needed public infrastructure project.
