Hundreds of visitors took advantage of a fun day outside at the eighth annual Family Day Winter Adventure at the Barrie Community Sports Complex in Midhurst on Monday.
The event was put on by the City of Barrie.
Kids of all ages could try axe-throwing and field hockey, as well as make homemade bird feeders, take horse-drawn wagon rides, and many other outdoor activities that were available to them.
Sophie Monette, 10, holding her new puppy, Apollo, was in line for the wagon ride when she spoke to BarrieToday.
She couldn’t wait to meet the horses, “because they are so cool and my mom likes them.”
Tobogganing was also high on her list as well.
Monette said that the most important part of Family Day was “having fun with your family.”
Five-year-old Henrik Chiarotto said that his favourite activity at the event was all the games that he could play, “because sometimes I play games at home, and I like games.”
He was quick to state the meaning of Family Day to him, “because it's all about family.”
Chiarotto’s mother, Candace, added that “getting outside in the winter, being together and being active and having a good time” is what it’s all about.
The city also hosted a few other weekend events celebrating Family Day, such as the Nature in Winter Pop-up event at Sunnidale Park with self-guided activities available over the Family Day weekend.
Indoor fun was also available on Family Day with activities for all ages at Allandale Recreation Centre, East Bayfield Community Centre, and Peggy Hill Team Community Centre.
