MIDHURST - Warden Gerry Marshall has proclaimed December 3, 2015 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with the theme “Inclusion matters: access and empowerment for people of all abilities”.

By observing this day, the County of Simcoe is encouraging residents to further their understanding of disability issues and to mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

The County also hopes to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the inclusion of all people in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities works to promote action to raise awareness about disability issues and draw attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all.

“Our communities are among the most inclusive, accessible and welcoming municipalities in the province,” said Warden Gerry Marshall. “December 3 is a day to embrace the tremendous achievements of our residents with disabilities. It also serves as a reminder that we must continue to defend and promote the dignity and rights of all our residents, while ensuring that the needs of our citizens are met.”

The County of Simcoe is composed of sixteen member municipalities and provides crucial public services to County residents in addition to providing paramedic and social services to the separated cities of Barrie and Orillia.
