Isabella will be Out on the Town where she was born for a fun, loud concert

'I was born in Barrie and lived on (Canadian Forces Base) Borden for a while, so whenever I return to the city it is a little bit like coming home'

Kira Isabella will take the Mavricks Music Hall stage next weekend and says she's ready to rock the city she was born in with some loud country music.

Isabella will join Aaron Pritchett and David James on Feb. 16 for the Barrie stop on the Out on the Town tour and the popular country star says she's very familiar with what the city of Barrie will be like when she gets here.

“I was born in Barrie and lived on (Canadian Forces Base) Borden for a while, so whenever I return to the city it is a little bit like coming home,” said Isabella told BarrieToday. “Not only because of being born here, either, because I did move away, but the city is so welcoming and still has its own small-town feel at times. It is really fun to get here and perform.”

The 25-year-old artist has been rising in country music since her first single, Love Me Like That, was released in 2011. With a mix of songs for all of her fans to appreciate, Isabella says the upcoming show at Mavricks is going be a fun one not just for the crowd, but for her, too.

“I live for these types of shows,” she said. “I really love the rock feel of a show with loud country and an active crowd, it is always fun that way. I do have some slower songs that I love performing, but some, like Shake It If Ya Got It or Gone Enough, really get everyone singing along and right into the party atmosphere, which suits an Aaron Pritchett tour perfectly.”

Isabella loves all types of music, but grew up on country as her parents brought their love of the genre with them from when they lived Cold Lake, Alta.

The 2013 Canadian Country Music Association female artist of the year winner sees a lot of country fans in her travels, even those who say they’re not.

“I always laugh when people say they really aren’t huge country fans, but they love my tunes,” Isabella said. “Then they mention other artists and talk about their favourite tunes and I keep thinking, maybe you really are a country fan.”

The Out on the Town tour hits Mavricks on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m.
