Investigation leads to drug trafficking charges

COLLINGWOOD, ON - Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Central Drug Enforcement Unit and Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) with the assistance of officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP detachment executed a warrant last week at a residence in Collingwood.

The warrant was executed on July 7 2016 at a residence on Second Street in Collingwood which led to the arrest of one male and the seizure of controlled substances.

Officers seized approximately 70 grams of cocaine, approximately 85 grams of marihuana, a small amount of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin (mushrooms), cash, prohibited knives and brass knuckles.

Charged is 29 year-old James Cox of Collingwood, he is facing charges of:

  • six counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • four counts of possession of a controlled substance
  • two counts of possession of cannabis resin – over 1 gram
  • one count of possession of marihuana – over 30 grams
  • three counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon

He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
