Innisfil’s first annual Terry Fox Run off to a great start

More than 200 runners lace up for charity

Some 250 runners and walkers turned out for the first annual Kempenfelt Bay School (KBS) community Terry Fox Run.

Participants, some accompanied by their dogs, completed the event by running, cycling, “strollering” and walking for up to 10 kilometres.

The run began at the KBS parking lot, located at 2145 Innisfil Beach Road, continued through the Innisfil Rotary Trail, and circled the Town of Innisfil/YMCA fields to make a 2.5 km loop.

“Today (Sunday) was an important day for two reasons. First, it was great for KBS to work with our partners and bring another community into the Terry Fox Foundation. While Innisfil did not have a community Terry Fox Run prior to this year, KBS will ensure that it has one going forward,” said Christopher White, Kempenfelt Bay School, head of school. “It was also an important day for KBS, being new to the Innisfil community to have the opportunity to invite the community to come and learn about who we are.”

In partnership with the Rotary Club of Innisfil, the event kicked off with the KBS band’s rendition of O’ Canada and a welcome from local dignitaries.

Innisfil Mayor Gord Wauchope congratulated KBS and specifically teacher Jonathan Monkcom for taking the initiative and bringing the community together for the run.

Barrie Innisfil MP John Brassard presented KBS with a certificate of recognition and thanks.

The inaugural run has raised $7,658 raised so far.
