Construction crews will soon be heading to the road now labelled the worst in the Central Ontario region by the CAA.

St. John's Road in Innisfil is a "pot-holy, bumpy, gravely mess," says Sadie Wilson, a lakeshore resident who often drives along the road from Innisfil Beach Road to Lefroy.

"It's terrible. You have to be careful with your car, and you don't want to hit the shoulders."

The CAA "worst road" designation was no surprise, and it comes as town staff prepares to embark on a major reconstruction project to resurface the stretch of road and build two-metre wide cycling/pedestrian lanes to improve safety.

At an estimated cost of $1.2-million, construction will include new culverts near the 7th Line.

It's a long-term solution in the works since 2015.

Two Barrie roads took second and third place on the CAA's Top 10 Worst Roads survey for 2016.

With its cracks, pot holes and deteriorating culverts, Morrow Road is number 2 on the list, followed by Ferndale Drive North where improvements have already begun.

Ferndale is closed from Tiffin Street to Dunlop St. West for road construction including widening, bike lanes and sidewalks, lights and sewers. The price tag? Almost $9 million for a project that is expected to last until next spring.

Mapleview Drive East in Barrie - another place where major construction is to start this summer - also made the list this year - finishing fifth.
