Innisdale students bring home gold from Halifax skills competition

SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Three Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students represented the province of Ontario at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) in Halifax at the end of May.

Olivia Kennedy and Jessica St. Amand from Innisdale Secondary School brought home a gold medal in 2D Character Animation. St. Amand previously won a silver medal in the same category at the 2018 national competition. She has been accepted to the Bachelor of Animation program at Sheridan College, while Kennedy will return to Innisdale next year.

Matthew Cameron from Barrie North Collegiate Institute represented the SCDSB and the province in Electrical Installations. 

The event promotes skilled trade and technology careers to youth by hosting skilled trades competitions for over 500 students from across Canada in more than 40 contest areas.

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program provide significant support to the skills competitions.
