More than 300 guests joined Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) for its inaugural Gowns and Gloves Gala at Casino Rama Resort on Saturday, Nov. 3, raising an incredible $326,000 for its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and medical equipment.

“Over 2,000 babies are born at RVH each year and ensuring we have the technology ready to support the specialized healthcare needs of our tiniest patients is vital,” says Janice Skot, RVH president and CEO.

“Each year approximately 400 babies require extra care in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and we want to ensure they can get that care, closer to home. We’re so grateful to the individuals and companies that supported the gala and are helping us provide care for generations to come.”

The sold out event included a reception, dinner and musical entertainment by the Montreal Rhapsody Orchestra, as well as live and silent auctions.

“We are so appreciative of those who made this contribution to patient care possible including an amazing committee of volunteers, generous sponsors, and donations from businesses to support the auction, as well as hundreds of guests,” says Shaun Sauvé, gala chair and member of the RVH Foundation board of directors.

Most equipment is not government funded which means the cost of replacement is the responsibility of the health centre and the community. Funds from the gala will support various medical equipment needs touching the lives of many patients.
