Imagine, create, play at Maker Faire

SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Students, teachers and families can create and play at the 2016 SCDSB Maker Faire, taking place on May 12 at Nottawasaga Pines SS. 

The free event is in partnership with the Essa Public Library and will feature:

  • makerspaces with various materials and technology, including robotics, coding, sewing and silk screening
  • vendor booths
  • Student Invention Convention with displays of student work
  • educator workshops

“Makerspaces and tinkerlabs are popping up in classrooms, libraries and homes across our county,” says Anita Simpson, Superintendent of Program and Innovation. “This event is a chance for students, families and teachers to be inspired together. We want share the message that we’re all makers and it’s fun to learn through play and doing.”

The Student Invention Convention will happen from 6 to 7 p.m., where students will showcase their inventions, gadgets, art and more.

There are educator workshops taking place from 6 to 7 and 7 to 8 p.m. Educators will learn about science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) based learning, art integration, technology integration and more.
 
The Maker Faire runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Nottawasaga Pines is located at 8505 Cty Rd 10 in Angus.
