NEWS RELEASE

BARRIE POLICE SERVICE

*************************
It can only take a matter of seconds for a thief to steal a bicycle. Unfortunately, many people fail to protect their property and police are continuously receiving reports of stolen bicycles throughout the City of Barrie.

Several reports claim the bike locks have been cut and discarded.

Police are reminding residents to ensure their bicycles are always locked and secured to an immovable object such as a bicycle rack, and refrain from parking it in isolated or dimly lit areas.

In the event your bicycle is stolen please report this to police as soon as possible.

Having the serial number may assist police in reuniting owners with their property if it’s located.

Here are some tips to keep your bicycle secure:

  • Use high quality locks (thick locks)
  • Always lock your bicycle - no matter where it’s parked
  • Lock both wheels to the frame
  • Remove quick release items from the bicycle – I.e. seat
  • Insure your bicycle
  • Record the model, make, serial number and have a picture to provide police
