Hospice Simcoe director dubs 2018-19 'an incredible year' at AGM

Hospice Simcoe hosted their Annual General Meeting this week. Our report to stakeholders and the general public was well received.

Executive director Kelly Hubbard welcomed everyone and expressed appreciation for an incredible year full of accomplishments, expansion and compassion.  She sincerely thanked a very generous community who donated $1.2 million for our daily operations. 

“We are so very grateful to our very generous donors and supporters that make this happen so we can provide all of our programs and services at no cost,” said Kelly Hubbard, Executive Director

“It was a pleasure to welcome four new members to our exceptional and diverse Board of Directors this year.”  Chris Nichols, Board Chairperson  “We also honoured one of our extraordinary volunteers, Mary Ann Pope. Mary Ann was the recipient of the prestigious provincial June Callwood Outstanding Hospice Volunteer Award.”

A few quick facts about our 2018 – 2019 fiscal year:

  • We provided care to 280 people who spent their final days and weeks with us in our residence
  • Our highly trained visiting volunteers had 892 visits with community clients in their own home – a 53 per cent increase over last year
  • Our bereavement support team served 280 people through our individual and group programs – a 12 per cent increase over last year
  • We are proud of our amazing volunteer team of 200 that provided almost 20,000 hours of service

As a registered charity since 1988, Hospice Simcoe continues to ensure that every person has access to high quality palliative and end-of-life care, comforting companionship and bereavement support when they or their loved one is facing a life limiting illness. 

Since our 10 bed residence opened in 2009, over 2,000 people from Simcoe County have spent their final days and weeks in our care. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and fundraising events, there is no charge for any of our programs and services.
