Here are some suggestions from the City of Barrie:

12 Days Of Fitness

  • 12 Days of Fitness is a great way to decide which program to join in January or to stay fit before the Holiday hits. From December 12– 23rd, you can drop in and sample some of the registered fitness programs being offered in 2013, from Yoga Fit to Boot Camp and so much more. Pass or day user fees apply. Plus, attend 6 or more programs and you’ll be entered into a draw for a $100 City of Barrie gift certificate.

Winter Wonderland Camp

  • For busy parents, Holiday Camps ensure that children will have a fun break. Camps are available Dec. 27 & 28, and Jan. 2, 3 and 4.
  • mix of sports, games, crafts, and outdoor play for ages 5–11 at both the East Bayfield and Holly Community Centres.
  • For a small additional daily fee, fully supervised childcare is also available before and after camp, from 7:00am to 5:30pm.

Camp Samplers

  • Camp Samplers suit parents who want their kids entertained for a few hours while they enjoy a little break.
  • Various 2-hour activities from crafts to sports, including Camp Cuisine and Dodge Ball Plus, are available for children ages 6–12 at Allandale, Holly, and East Bayfield Centres.
  • $10 for residents and $12 for non-residents.

Swimming

  • Open swimming will be available at various times throughout the break at Holly, East Bayfield and Allandale Community Centres.

Holiday Puppet Shows at the Library

  • January 2: Barrie Public Library, Downtown
  • January 3: Barrie Public Library, Painswick 10:00am or 11:00am

Downtown Countdown

  • Ring in the New Year at Barrie’s 13th Annual Downtown Countdown.
  • On December 31, Barrie will host a family evening of FREE fun and celebration that begins at City Hall at 7 p.m.
  • Festivities will include musical performances, horse-drawn wagon rides, skating the Circle, midway rides, face painting, pony rides, and two sets of fantastic fireworks at 7:45 p.m. and midnight.
