BARRIE – On Friday, organizers and sponsors officially launched Hockey Night in Simcoe County at the Barrie Molson Centre Club Lounge. This year’s name change was consistent with the motto that the event gets “bigger and better every year.”

“I am really excited to see how the event has grown over my 9 year involvement. With more and more people traveling across the region to attend the event, we decided to expand the involvement to other hospitals and organizations in Simcoe County,” said Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown who is helping to organize the event. “I know that given the involvement of organizations from across the county, this event will be the biggest and best hockey night yet.”

The recipients of the proceeds from this year’s event have expanded to include hospitals and charities from across Simcoe County: Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie (RVH), Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia (OSMH), Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland (GBGH), and the Barrie Colts Foundation.

The three benefiting hospitals expressed their excitement about participating in this year’s event.

“RVH is privileged to be a beneficiary of this amazing event for nine years now,” said Janice Skot, RVH president and CEO. “The money raised will help develop an eight-bed child and youth mental health inpatient unit and day program at RVH. Simcoe Muskoka is the only region in the province without these important services and we need to ensure troubled kids from across this region have access to mental health services closer to home.”

“Georgian Bay General Hospital is pleased to be a part of the Hockey Night in Simcoe County this year,” added Karen McGrath, the President and CEO of GBGH. “We appreciate all the work that has gone into the past nine years and are thankful to share in the future of such a great event.”

“It’s exciting to be a part of the growth of this event and we’re very thankful to Patrick Brown for his efforts to support healthcare throughout the riding,” concluded Pat Campbell, OSMH President and CEO.

Alongside Brown and the representative from RVH, OSMH, GBGH and the Barrie Colt’s Foundation were sponsors Kool FM, Rock 95, the Barrie Advance, and CTV.

Further details will be made available closer to the event date.
