Everyone has a wish—some are just bigger than others.

Barrie’s Seniors Wish is in the business of reaching out to lonely and isolated seniors to make them feel part of the community. It has been the goal of the group since it was founded in 2011 by auctioneer Barb Richards. She wanted to reach out to lonely and isolated seniors in the community not just those in long term care facilities.

Communications director Lucille Dalziel says, “We’re in the wish granting business.”

To that end, nominations are now open to select people whose wish might become reality this year.

“A committee will review the submissions and the winners announced at the Legends and Legacies Gala June 8.”

Dalziel says its amazing the dreams that have been asked for in the past.

“Most are so simple. One senior wanted to meet the Barrie Colts. Another asked to go for a ride around Barrie to see the Christmas lights, and one just wanted to be taken to the cemetery where a spouse was interred—all things we would take for granted. This spring we will grant a wish for an 85-year-old lady who wants to do the Edgewalk at the CN Tower.”

This year’s gala theme is 'Madhatters' and includes a full meal plus live and silent auctions at Liberty North on Caplan Avenue.

Proceeds will go to support a number o Seniors Wish programs including Adopt-a-Senior, Christmas Wish and Seniors Helping Seniors.

Tickets are $125 per person or table of eight for $900 each and on sale now.
