Heavy rain, mild temps bring big melt (5 photos)

Wet, record mild spell also brings flooding in some areas

Environment Canada says a 'major rainfall event' will continue until tomorrow morning.

Rain, heavy at times continues and the frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb all that water.

Several rounds of rain will continue today and tonight, according to the national forecaster, with total rainfall amounts from Monday night through Wednesday in the 50 to 75 mm range.

This wet, record mild spell is attributed to a series of low pressure systems moving along a warm front draped across the lower Great Lakes, according to EC.

A rainfall warning and a fog advisory remain in effect for the region.

Innisfil is experiencing widespread flood conditions in many areas.  A temporary road closure has been issued for Maple Road from Belle Aire Beach Road to Spooners Road.  There are reports of flooding conditions and/or water on the road in nearly 20 locations.

The Town says all Operations Crews have been mobilized and additional resources are being being secured to assist with clearing ditches of slush and ice to help keep the water moving.

A cold front will arrive Wednesday, bringing an end to the rain.
