Health protocols lead to 'temporary reduction in frequency' on some Barrie Transit routes

Routes 1, 6 and 100 are affected by the changes and will remain in effect until further notice, says city official

On the heels of a COVID-19 workplace outbreak being declared at Barrie Transit, the city’s transportation department is warning riders that some changes have been made to the schedule.

It was announced on Monday that seven Barrie Transit employees were isolating at home after testing positive for COVID. Since then, riders have heard rumblings of changes to schedules.

Brent Forsyth, the city's director of transit and parking strategy, told BarrieToday there will indeed be disruption on some routes.

“Following public health protocols to ensure the safety of both passengers and operators, Barrie Transit is expecting a temporary reduction in frequency on Routes 1, 6 and 100,” said Forsyth. “This will be in effect until further notice, with hopes to get this back up to current service levels shortly.”

Riders are asked to check the MyRide website before departing for their trip.

On April 15, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit declared a workplace outbreak because of a possible link between two of the confirmed cases. At this time, the new cases have not been linked to the previous cases.
