Talk Is Free Theatre (TIFT) is proud to present the North American debut of the unapologetically bold Gypsy Queen.

This gate-crashing production from the United Kingdom recently celebrated sold-out engagements and garnered five-star reviews for its exploration of LGBTQI visibility in sport, faith, sexuality, and the notion of masculinity.

Written by and starring award-winning playwright and actor Rob Ward, Gypsy Queen is a refreshingly unique story of two fighters who discover the greatest challenge lies outside the ring and pulls no punches in the delivery.

In a world of sport that rewards pain and ferocity with acclaim and accolades, two boxers fight to find love, but will they find acceptance? Outside the boxing ring, these two fighters struggle to live their truth against the harsh backdrop posed by their careers, their families, and their faith.

Poignant, unflinching, and affecting; Gypsy Queen is struggle in action that tackles themes of homophobia and bigotry with honesty and sincerity. This is a wake-up call for action and acceptance that is sorely needed in today’s social climate.

Gypsy Queen was selected as one of LGBT Youth Scotland’s Top Ten Festival Picks at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe, nominated for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award as well as nominated for Best New Play and Best Fringe Production for the 2018 Manchester Theatre Awards.

Directed by Chris Lawson and starring John Askew and Rob Ward, there will be previews at the Five Points Theatre on Nov. 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m., followed by the official opening on Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. The production closes Nov. 30 with shows at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
