Grizzlies finish on the leaderboard at Ontario Amateur Championship

Midhurst native Brady Zordan places 13th, one spot behind teammate Matt LeMay; Barrie native Matt Ash misses the cut

Georgian Grizzlies men’s golfers Matt LeMay, Brady Zordan and Jeff Ash participated at the Investors Group Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship this week at the St. Thomas Golf & Country Club in Union, Ont.

LeMay, finished the tournament in the 12th overall position shooting his best round on the events final day with a one-under round of 70. The Waterloo native recently graduated from Georgian after four years with the program where he served as the team’s captain.

Zordan, finished close behind in a tie for 13th place. The Midhurst native had a tremendous opening day to be in second place after round one and finished strong on the final day with a round of 73.

Ash, a Barrie native, battled hard through the first two rounds of the event but missed the cut. Both Zordan and Ash will be returning to Georgian in the fall.

The Georgian Grizzlies OCAA golf season gets underway this September. Georgian’s men’s team has won an OCAA medal the last nine consecutive seasons while the women’s team has earned a medal in each of the last seven years.

Tryouts for this year’s team will take place in early September with exact dates being announced in the coming weeks.
