'Great opportunity': In-person job fair returns to Innisfil

'This event was a success for many, and most employers either found potential candidates or the right candidate for the job,' says Agilec official

Twenty employers welcomed 210 prospective employees at the Innisfil Job Fair on Tuesday.

In partnership with Employment Ontario, Agilec Innisfil was proud to offer the first in-person event of its kind since the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

“This is a great opportunity for job-seekers to connect with local employers,” said Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin. “Innisfil is a growing area and we think job fairs like this showcase the many businesses in Innisfil seeking new staff and encourage anyone looking for full- or part-time work to participate.”

Held at the YMCA in Innisfil, employers included businesses who sought to hire people in various roles, from customer service representatives, baristas, and cashiers to visual merchandisers, dock hands and flight support/hangar cleaners.

"Employers in and around Innisfil have been requesting an 'in-person' job fair since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted," said Agilec’s employer liaison, Mary-Ellen O’Neill-Madeley. "Job-seekers said they were happy to have an opportunity to speak with local employers directly and learn more about the positions they are seeking to fill.

"This event was a success for many, and most employers either found potential candidates or the right candidate for the job," she added.

With more than 300 jobs available, O’Neill-Madeley said some employers hired people on the spot, while others were able to connect with great potential hires.

Employers are seeking “hard-working, dedicated employees who want to learn and grow with their companies. The most sought-after employee traits are punctuality, self-motivation, attention to detail and a professional attitude and appearance," she said.

O’Neill-Madeley noted that more employers had expressed interest in participating in the job fair, but were unable to attend due to staffing issues.

Agilec Innisfil offers a variety of services, such as training and professional development, which includes workshops on resumes and cover letters, in addition to interview preparation and career assessments and coaching.

Anyone unable to attend the job fair and would like to know more, the team at Agilec Innisfil can assist with providing the aforementioned services. If unemployed, out of school or working less than 20 hours per week, interested people are welcome to visit their office at 1070 Innisfil Beach Rd., Unit 1, where they can apply for any of the jobs that were connected to the job fair.
