NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF BARRIE

*************************
Need to clean out your garage, basement or spare room? Then wait for this weekend, because Saturday, June 11 is Free Goods Exchange Day in Barrie.

On the morning of June 11, residents can place unwanted, usable goods at the end of their driveway or at the edge of their lawn so that other people may take them.

Residents are encouraged to mark these items with the Free Goods Exchange Day poster, which is available for download on the Events Calendar at barrie.ca.

Popular items include sporting goods, furniture, small appliances, books, tools, doors, windows and so much more.

Anything that does not find a new home must be taken back in by 9 p.m. the same day as there will be no municipal collection provided to remove the leftover items.

Tell others about your items on social media by including #BarrieFGED in your messaging!

Everything you place at the end of your driveway or at the edge of your lawn is FREE. Anyone can come by and take it away. Because there is no money exchanged, you don’t have to stick around.

You can simply place your stuff at the curb and go. However, make sure to keep wanted items away from the curb or you might find them gone when you return.

The City of Barrie began this program in the early 90s and has continued to run the popular program annually.

Free Goods Exchange Day helps divert garbage from the landfill by providing an easy alternative to getting rid of unwanted items.

By practicing the second “R” – Reuse—we can conserve landfill space, which saves the community money and is kinder on our environment.
