An extreme cold warning is in effect.

Flurries today with local blowing snow. Local amount 5 cm. Wind gusting to 60 km/h.  High minus 16. Wind chill minus 34.

Flurries tonight. Local blowing snow. Local amount 5 cm. Wind gusting to 60 km/h. Low minus 23. Wind chill minus 36.

Flurries tomorrow.  Local blowing snow in the morning and early in the afternoon. Local amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind gusting to 50 km/h.  High minus 16. Wind chill minus 36.

Cloudy Sunday with 40 percent chance of flurries. High minus 8.

Here are the details of the extreme cold warning  issued by Environment Canada in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
  • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago

A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Wind chill values due to northwest winds up to 50 kilometres per hour will be in the minus 35 to 40 range early this morning. Temperatures and wind chill values will be slightly lower Friday night. The extreme cold will continue until Saturday or possibly into Sunday morning.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Check on older family, friends and neighbours.
