Innisfil is one of over 50 locations currently being considered for a new GO Train Station, says an official at Metrolinx.

"The community’s views are important to ensure that we have not overlooked any site-specific considerations, and will help inform the analysis as we move forward," said Alex Burke, media relations and issues specialist at Metrolinx.

"As we work towards producing a shortlist of locations that will undergo a business case analysis, we invite the community to comment on potential stations."

New station locations will be announced on June 28 at a Metrolinx Board of Directors meeting.

"We encourage residents to join the online discussion about the Innisfil station," Burke said.

On a typical weekday, the Barrie corridor has a GO Train ridership of approximately 18,500 people. It is impossible to know how many of those riders live in Innisfil and drive north to board southbound trains.

If a station is built in the town, it would likely be located in the Lefroy area. A site near the 5th line is identified in the Innisfil Official Plan, and the Lefroy Secondary Plan.

The Innisfil location is being evaluated against the following key criteria:

  • Ease of construction
  • Construction affordability
  • Travel time savings
  • Connectivity and ridership
  • Market potential
  • Development potential
  • Policy alignment
