NEWS RELEASE

SPRING INTO CLEAN

*************************
It is spring, despite what the forecast says. That means it’s time to get outside and help clean up your community. Registration is now open for the annual Spring into Clean events, which take place April 22 to 24. Register at barrie.ca/SpringIntoClean before the deadline on April 15.

Friday, April 22 (Earth Day):  Student Participation Day

The City encourages all elementary and high school students to take an active role in this community clean-up project by cleaning up their property and adjacent parklands. After registering, schools will receive enough garbage bags and gloves for each student participant to help clean up their yard and surrounding areas.

Saturday, April 23, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Waterfront Cleanup Day (New location: Heritage Park)

Friends, family and neighbours are encouraged to come out and clean up Barrie's waterfront area. Supplies will be provided, also beverages and snacks will be provided by Tim Horton's. Registered volunteers are invited to a free appreciation barbecue that will feature food, entertainment and activities for children. Registration is not required for the Waterfront Cleanup Day.

April 23 & 24: Community Cleanup Days

All residents are welcome to participate in this community project by registering to clean up a local public space such as a park, ravine, trail or neighbourhood park. Everybody, including community groups, teams, neighbourhood associations, individuals and families are encouraged to participate! Registrations can be submitted online, individually or as a group. By registering, you will receive the official Spring into Clean collection bags, and you will also ensure that the garbage you pick up is collected by a truck at the end of the day.

April 22 to 24:  Corporate Cleanup Days

This is a call to all businesses in Barrie to participate in this community project by registering to clean up a local public space such as a park, ravine, trail or neighbourhood park. Registrations can be submitted online, individually or as a group.

A Spring into Clean flag raising ceremony will take place at City Hall on April 11 at 11 a.m. with Mayor Lehman, staff and community members. All are welcome to attend.

Spring into Clean is sponsored by Tim Horton’s and garbage collection is donated by Progressive Waste Solutions. The Spring Into Clean events coincide with Earth Week and are designed to clean up our community, while raising levels of environmental awareness and social responsibility. Last year, the events saw 16,050 participants collect 4,870 kgs across 159,328 sq. meters of the City.
