The 31st annual Georgian Auto Show opened today at the Barrie campus, with 20 vehicle manufacturers on site to answer questions and show off what's new in the car industry.

Erin Nightingale, chapter and programing manager at Autism Ontario Simcoe County, says the event is important for another reason.

"This is our biggest fundraiser for the year," she said. "With no government funding, we depend on fundraising for all the money to run our programs. This is very important."

The group is raffling a roadster over the weekend, with tickets priced at $10 each.

It's a unique vehicle, handcrafted and roadworthy.

"Yes, it can drive on the road. Pretty amazing," Nightingale said.

The bright green, custom XL Concept Trike is worth an estimated $35,000 and was donated to the local Autism Ontario branch in partnership with the Patchless MC, a group of motorcycle enthusiasts that organize several open rides each year to raise money for various charities and communities causes.

The show runs today until 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily admission is $7 and kids under 12 get in free.
