Circle K convenience stores have kicked off their 'Fueling Our Schools' fundraising campaign at participating Barrie Mac's and Circle K stores.

Barrie residents are invited to gas up on special “Fuel Up” Nights at specially marked fuel pumps.

Circle K will donate 2.5 cents per litre of fuel purchased to a participating local school.

The first 'Fuel Up' night was held Nov. 9 at the Huronia Rd. Mac's and the recipient was Mapleview Heights Public School.

"We have the goal of raising around $700,000 across North America in 2018.  It's the second year we've offered the program," said Aaron Smorodin, director of fuels.

"We think this is an innovative fundraising program, and really brings in community involvement."

Mac's Convenience Stores, a Canadian owned company, is re-branding to Circle K in Ontario

There are two ways to donate and the campaign goes all year.

"Over the course of the year, we'll be donating .25 cents of every litre sold at the specially marked 'Fueling Our School' dispenser.

On our Fuel Up nights, we'll donate 2.5 cents for every litre sold at that same fuel up dispenser."

There will be two 'Fuel Up' nights over the course of the year.

The company plans to donate up to $2,000 per school per year.

"These funds are used for technology programs, breakfast programs, in-school resources, teacher resources, leadership conferences. We really allow the schools to tailor what they're going to use those funds for to rally have an improvement in their day to day activities," said Smorodin.
