A funeral service will be held this morning for the "young individual" struck and killed by a car at Canadian Forces Base Borden last week.

Public Affairs Captain Rob Bungay confirms the service will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Protestant Chapel on Dieppe Road at CFB Borden.

Bungay says the law prevents him from revealing any further details about the "young" person because the person is not a member of the military.

The tragedy occurred last Thursday around 5 p.m. at a residential housing unit of the base.

"An individual was struck as a car was backing up," Bungay said last week. "Preliminary investigation leads towards an accident."

He confirmed the incident involved military family members and said Tuesday the family does not wish to make a public statement.

On Friday, Chief Andrew Robert of County of Simcoe Paramedic services said paramedics quickly responded to "this child and provided advanced medical procedures during rapid transport to hospital."

The child was pronounced dead upon arrival at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston.

Authorities have not said who was driving the car that backed up and struck the child.

No charges have been laid and the investigation by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service is ongoing.
