Many houses in south-end Barrie were badly damaged when a tornado ripped through the area Thursday, July 15.

FreshSpoke, the online local food marketplace, today announced a new initiative in support of those tragically affected by the tornado that ripped through neighbourhoods along the southeastern border of Barrie.

For every gift card purchased between July 16 to July 31, 2021, FreshSpoke will donate the matching value to residents and families affected by the storm in local food vouchers.

“Our hearts go out to the families and businesses that have been impacted by the tornado. These are our neighbours, customers, colleagues and friends,” said Marcia Woods, CEO and founder of FreshSpoke.

“We’ve started this initiative to help bring some relief and to ensure those affected have access to fresh and local food.”

Individuals and businesses interested in participating in the initiative can purchase a gift card through our online marketplace for themselves or as a gift. FreshSpoke will then match the value of the card and distribute up to a maximum of $2,000 in food vouchers. Those receiving a gift card or voucher can order through FreshSpoke’s web or mobile app.

They will have access to hundreds of local food products from over 65 Canadian food producers and processors. FreshSpoke offers a variety of fresh produce, Ontario-raised meats and fish, as well as other grocery and specialty dietary items including paleo, vegan, keto, plant-based and gluten-free options.
