A 57-year-old man, new to the Barrie area, approached a bank on Mapleview Drive in Barrie last week and applied for a $30 000 dollar loan for what he suggested was a vehicle purchase.  Bank staff became suspicious with the out of province identification the male provided and contacted Barrie Police.

On Saturday afternoon, members with the Barrie Street Crime and Fraud Unit were on scene to meet the suspect when he arrived to claim his loot.

It is alleged that the male had fraudulently produced his various forms of Identification and the male was arrested for Fraud Over $5000, Utter Forged Document and Possession of Counterfeit Mark.

Once his actual identity was confirmed, it was learned the male had attempted a similar scheme in New Brunswick in January 2017.  He was caught that time as well and placed on a Recognizance.

He was charged with the additional offence for failing to comply with his recognizance and transported to the Barrie Police Station.

The male now has a bail hearing.
