The investigation continues into what led to an infant boy’s death and the hospitalization of his mother and sister following a suspected carbon-monoxide leak at a south-end Barrie home last month.

“I can tell you the woman has been released from the hospital and is recovering well,” Barrie police Const. Sarah Bamford told BarrieToday on Friday.

Emergency crews responded to the Barre Drive home, located near Yonge Street and D’Amrbrosio Drive, the morning of March 18 after the father returned from work, discovered what was happening and called 911.

The 10-month-old boy was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his 30-year-old mother and two-year-old sister were rushed to Toronto-area hospitals after they were found inside the home suffering from symptoms of carbon-monoxide poisoning.

The little girl was released from hospital shortly after the incident.

Officials with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) and Enbridge Gas are investigating the cause. An inspector has since examined the home’s chimney, but investigators are waiting for the final report.

“The investigation is still ongoing as they are still waiting on final reports from the TSSA,” Bamford said.

When firefighters entered the home, they detected dangerously high carbon-monoxide levels of 300 parts per million.

A Barrie fire department official said there were no working carbon-monoxide alarms in the home.
