East end fire causes thousands in damage but no injuries

'We’re still investigating the cause, but the damages are likely between $30,000 to $40,000,' says Barrie Fire official

Barrie fire responded to a call at around 1:30 p.m. today to a home on Hickling Trail near McCuaig Court, where a fire had started in the basement. 

Captain Rob Doucette said no one was injured and the cause of the fire is unknown.

“We’re still investigating the cause, but the damages are likely between $30,000 to $40,000,” said Doucette. “It was a basement fire with heavy smoke and flames that were already coming out of the building upon our arrival. Thankfully there were no injuries.”

Two people inside were awaken by the smoke alarms and crews were able to contain the fire to the basement. 

Barrie fire will continue their investigation related to the origin of the blaze.
