NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF BARRIE
*************************
The next phase of the Dunlop Street construction project will start the week of March 2 and continue until fall 2020.

This project is necessary to replace aging infrastructure in Barrie’s downtown. Above ground, the project will improve the pedestrian experience with wider sidewalks, while providing downtown businesses with more attractive and accessible storefronts. New streetlights, planters and trees will make for a refreshed and greener downtown.

All businesses on Dunlop Street are open during construction. Dunlop Street is open to pedestrians and the city encourages residents and visitors to support local stores, restaurants and services.

The initial stage of construction took place on Dunlop Street (Poyntz to east of Owen) from August to November 2019.

The next construction stages are outlined below:

STAGE 1 - March to July 2020
Dunlop/Owen Street intersection closure and Dunlop Street closed between Owen and Clapperton

STAGE 2 - July to September 2020
Five Points intersection closure and Toronto Street intersection closure with construction areas on Dunlop Street between Clapperton Street and Maple Avenue, and between Mary Street and Toronto Street

STAGE 3 - September to November 2020
Mary Street and Maple Avenue intersection closure with construction area on Dunlop Street between Maple Avenue and Mary Street

Two-hour free parking will be provided in the Chase McEachern Way and Maple Avenue Central parking lots from March until the end of construction. Residents/visitors must print a receipt from the machine and display it on their vehicle dashboard to be eligible for the free two-hour parking.
