Duckworth Street closed for 3 nights

Duckworth street closed nightly next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

A section of Duckworth Street will be closed for three nights next week for bridge construction.

Residents of Barrie's east end neighbourhoods may need to plan for a new route home next week, as Duckworth Street will be closed in both directions at the Highway 400 bridge.

Anyone driving to Royal Victoria Hospital should also note the night ime closures.

No traffic will be permitted under the existing bridge or in the vicinity of the new bridge under construction on Tuesday, Feb. 9, Wednesday, Feb. 10 and Thursday, Feb. 11 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Access ramps to Highway 400 will remain open.

Councillor Doug Shipley says his biggest concern is motorists heading to Royal Victoria Hospital from Cundles Road or Little Lake.

"That's always a worry to me, because the hospital is in that area and we don't want anyone with an emergency heading down the road and realizing that they can't get through and they have to go around," Shipley said.

"It's really important that we get the word out that these closures are happening."

Depending on the speed of the necessary work, Shipley said the road could actually be closed for four nights.

This road closure is required as part of the ongoing Cundles Road-Duckworth Street and Highway 400 interchange improvements, scheduled for completion at the end of this year.

Bell Farm Road and St. Vincent Street will be used as the detour route.

Barrie Transit Route 6A/6B will detour using Livingstone Street, Cundles Road, St.Vincent Street, Bell Farm Road, Duckworth Street and back onto Georgian Drive.

Notices will be posted at all stops affected by the closure along Route 6A/6B.

Affected Stops include: #223 Pacific Avenue, #216 Cundles at Duckworth, #950 Livingstone Street East, #222 Pacific Avenue and #215 Cundles at Duckworth Street.

The Duckworth/Cundles project is funded by the province, federal government, and City of Barrie to improve the transportation infrastructure and traffic capacity in the area of the Highway 400-Duckworth Street interchange.
