BARRIE POLICE

*************************
Barrie Police received several calls in quick succession to the downtown area around supper time Saturday evening all with regards to the same drunk driver.

The 30-year-old Severn man operating a black pick up was driving north on Clapperton Street from the 5 Points intersection when he struck a male pedestrian.

Without hesitating to check that the male was okay, the driver continued up Bayfield street striking a parked car hard enough to write it off.

Still determined to go on, the driver continued north on Bayfield Street where he crossed over the center line at Wellington Street and caused a head on collision with a south bound vehicle.

Both involved vehicles were destroyed as a result and the driver was quickly located and apprehended on scene.

The two female occupants of the vehicle involved in the head on collision were transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Center with minor injuries.

The male pedestrian was admitted to hospital with broken ribs and a lacerated lung. He was held over night and is considered in stable condition.

The driver that caused all this mayhem was arrested for Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle and provided samples of his breath at the station where he registered FOUR times the legal limit.   Additionally he was charged with Impaired Causing Bodily Harm, Failure to Remain (at an accident) and Over 80 (concentration of blood in alcohol).

The male was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date and a 90 day driving suspension.

One drunk driver caused trouble for two south end home owners early Sunday morning.

A 26-year-old Barrie man, allegedly driving while impaired, failed to negotiate a corner on a residential street and plowed into the parked vehicle in front of one house — forcing that vehicle into the garage and damaging the vehicle that was parked inside.

The vehicle causing the collision then continued to plow into the house next to the first house.

The driver was located on scene and arrested for Impaired Driving and taken to the Barrie Police Station to provide samples of his breath.

The male blew over the legal limit and was charged additionally.

This male too will have a future court date and automatically is suspended from driving for 90 days.

This male blew significantly lower than the first male but his driving was just as dangerous.  It goes without saying, that individuals can have very different reactions to the same amount of alcohol and for that reason the only safe amount to drink before driving is none.
