The driver, a non-licensed 18-year-old man, had been driving his girlfriend’s motor vehicle when he caught the attention of police while travelling the wrong way on a one-way street, on Kempenfelt Drive.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, although the driver failed to stop and fled from police heading north towards Dunlop Street and onto Berczy Street.

As a result of the erratic and dangerous driving displayed by the driver, police did not engage the vehicle any further.

Approximately 15 minutes later, the vehicle was located on Simcoe Street with a flat tire. A nearby witness advised police the driver had fled the area on foot, and also provided a description of the driver.

Astonishingly, the driver returned to the scene and was arrested and charged with; Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police, Fail to Stop at a Scene of an Accident, and Fail to Comply with Probation. The 18-year-old man is scheduled to appear in a Barrie Youth Court in October.
