The Professional Women’s Group (PWG), an employment retention program aimed at equipping women with skills to retain and excel at their jobs, was launched in December with an introductory session held at White Lions Tea House.

“The PWG is a free global Dress for Success employment retention program that aims to help women who are newly (re)employed,” said Linda Reid, executive director of Dress for Success (DfS) Orillia and Barrie. “We find some women need that extra bit of support and confidence boost when re-entering the workforce.”

The program will help women gain a deeper understanding of the workplace and give them a morale boost, which will help retain employment, she added. It will also help grow their careers with support from volunteer mentors and peers.

The 12-month program is facilitated with the help of volunteers, addressing topics such as the unwritten rules of the workplace, career goals, communication, mindful meditation for improving the self, and more.

A graduate of this program is selected annually to attend a DfS worldwide conference, which focuses on leadership.

Upon completion of the program, participating women receive a complimentary haircut, makeover and a professional LinkedIn profile photo.

The non-profit, DfS also runs the Breakfast Club and the Signature Suiting Program.

The Breakfast Club runs for nine weeks and as a pre-employment program, it helps motivate women to continue their job search. Participants set goals, take part in personality assessment, learn from volunteer facilitators about skills, such as communications, resume building, social media etiquettes, and even mindful meditation.

The Signature Suiting Program provides two free outfits to women who have secured job interviews, and up to five outfits once they have secured a job. Participants in this program must be sent by an employment agency or employer.

For more information about our programs and how to volunteer, contact Reid at 705-252-9200 or via email at [email protected].

Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
