Dozen charges laid in past week at short-term rentals in Oro-Medonte

The Oro-Medonte Good Neighbours Alliance has created lawn signs draw attention to disruptive short-term rentals.

Bylaw officers in Oro-Medonte have laid 12 charges in relation to four short-term rentals in the township over the past week.

The charges were laid under the Reopening Ontario Act. Each individual was fined $750, plus a victim fine surcharge of $130.

The short-term rental properties in question were located in Horseshoe Valley and at waterfront locations.

The charges in these cases were all laid by bylaw officers, not police, as the township conducts proactive enforcement.

“The township reminds everyone at this time, short-term rentals are not permitted,” a township statement read. “Any individual found to be utilizing a short-term rental can be charged under the Reopening Ontario Act.
